The package, believed to be a box, was discovered by a soldier at around 11.15am off Town Hall Street in Halifax. The surrounding roads are now closed off to the public and shops in the area have been evacuated.

In the last few minutes Metro have closed Halifax Bus Station until further notice. With diversions in place and public transport suspended, rush hour could become chaotic if this is ongoing. Keep up to date with the latest Metro travel new on twitter @MetroTravelNews
